Baked goods from Spice & Sugar Brooklyn are created by Brooklyn resident Mary Supley. Long before she moved to New York, Mary was the co-owner of a specialty baking business in the Washington DC area. With her partner, she made cupcakes, chocolate truffles, wedding and other special occasion cakes, and additional desserts including cookies, tarts, cheesecakes, pastries, and more. The business was featured on the front page of The Washington Post and Mary and her partner were booked for several television appearances, and they were recognized for their sustainable business practice.

Mary's favorite part of baking – and cooking (she also worked as a personal chef and has a certificate in Foods for Catering from L'Academie de Cuisine) – is developing recipes. For this collection of desserts, she looked to her spice rack and drew inspiration some of the savory foods she most loves to eat.
